Sunglasses Styles for Every Fashionista

Jane Worthington asked:

Some people like to follow the trends, but I have always done my own thing. I like to find clothing and accessories that are a little off the beaten track, and this includes eyewear. I remember when Ray Ban sunglasses first came out with the Wayfarer style in the 80’s, and I was in love. I found them before they took off and became an icon of that decade, but even though others wore them and then traded out when a new style came along, I’ve been wearing them since then. Of course like shoes, I have more than one pair of sunglasses!

Along with my funky Wayfarers sunglasses by Ray Ban, I also have a great pair of oversize sunglasses in my arsenal, so when I’m having a “Jackie O” day, I can bring out these black beauties. Whether I’m going to have lunch at a swanky joint, or attending a fashion show with my friends, I love my black oversize designer sunglasses for these “oh so glamourous” occasions. Of course, to go with my Jackie O shades, I put a fun and unexpected accessory with it, like a black dress with a bright pink scarf or yellow belt. I wouldn’t be me if I wasn’t mixing a couple creative elements with a standard in the fashion world.

For those sunny days at the beach during the summer, I have performance sunglasses that can keep up with me whether I’m body boarding or playing volleyball. This is not the time for designer sunglasses like my oversize Jackie O’s, this is time for my Arnette eyewear. I have a great tortoise shell framed pair of Arnettes that wrap around and keep that bright sun out at all angles and protect my precious eyesight. I have a cute bikini that just sets off my shades, and some crazy flip flops with turtles on them to keep my outfit unique.

I think that sunglasses are an important accessory that should not only change to suit the occasion, but a fashion statement in and of itself, that can make or break my unique style.

The Making of Sunglasses

Chris Simpson asked:

Roman Emperor Nero “made” the first sunglasses by watching gladiator competitions through polished light emerald green gems held up to his eyes. The true invention of sunglasses was somewhere between 1268 and 1289.

Around the twelfth century and before 1430, sunglasses were worn by Judges in the Courts of China. The smoky quartz, flat-glassed panes were not used as protection from the sun. They were used to conceal any expression in their eyes to keep from giving away the outcome of their decisions. Prescription sunglasses were developed in Italy in 1430 and were later used by the Chinese Judges.

By the 1600’s people began to realize the benefits of prescription glasses as helping the elderly to see better and the motto “A Blessing to the Aged” came into being in 1629.

In the mid 18th Century, James Ayscough developed blue and green corrective lenses which began the use of sunglasses for correcting optical impairments.

The development of glasses and sunglasses evolved. Problems in keeping eyeglasses propped on the nose led to experiments. Glasses frames had been made from leather, bones and metal and were propped on the nose. Sidepieces began as silk strips of ribbon that looped around the ears. Instead of loops, the Chinese added ceramic weights to the ends of the ribbons. Solid sidepieces were invented by Edward Scarlett in 1730. Benjamen Franklin’s invention of bifocal lenses followed in 1780.

By the 20th Century, sunglasses were used to protect the eyes from the sun. In 1929 Sam Foster began selling his protective sunglasses at Woolworth stores on the boardwalk at the beaches in Atlantic City and New Jersey. His Foster Grants were the first mass-produced sunglasses and they began the trend of sunglasses for fashion.

In the 1930’s the Army Air Corps asked Bausch & Lomb to develop sunglasses that would efficiently reduce high-altitude sun glare for pilots. Bausch & Lomb came up with sunglasses that had a dark green tint that absorbed light through the yellow spectrum.

Edward H. Land had invented the Polaroid filter and by 1936 he was using it in the making of sunglasses and soon, sunglasses became “cool.” Movies stars began wearing sunglasses as a statement and to hide behind. Aviator glasses became popular with the movie stars and the general public in 1937 after Ray Ban developed the anti-glare sunglasses using polarization. The longer lens was created to give more protection to pilots’ eyes from the light reflecting off their control panels.

By the 1970’s Hollywood stars and fashion designers made a huge impact on the sunglasses market. Clothing designers and stars put their names on glasses and sunglasses and everyone had to have them.

In 2007, stars are still hiding behind their oversized designer sunglasses, making fashion statements and protecting their eyes from the harmful effects of the Ultra Violet (UV) rays of the sun. With modern technology and improvements, the making of sunglasses continues to evolve. We have gone from holding green gems up to our eyes to watch Gladiator sports to Oakley’s 2004 sunglasses with digital audio players built in. What’s next?

Fashion Sunglasses not Just Protection

anyer asked:

Never have there been so many fashion sunglasses styles and colors to choose from whether you are shopping for designer sunglasses, replica sunglasses, prescription sunglasses or sports sunglasses the choices are endless. Besides protecting your eyes from the sun’s harmful rays, sunglasses, also play important roles in showing your personalities and adding complement to your wardrobe.

Take a clue from celebs and fashion types who know that the right pair of fashion sunglasses can add instant mystique, chic and polish to any look.

Styles

Fashion Sunglasses trends have taken their cue from runway and street fashion. Trendy tints span the rainbow, so look for a hue that flatters your coloring.

Wraps. Extending past the eye to the temple, this style “wraps” around the face.

Shields. One-piece shields have a modern look and are often partially rimmed or rimless and come in a wide range of tints.

Aviators. Shaped like a teardrop, metal-rimmed aviators have enjoyed waves of trendiness since WWII when pilots favored this style.

Clip-ons. An easy way to convert prescription eyeglasses to sunwear, clip-on shades can attach with either clips or magnets.

Flatter Your Face.

In general, women should choose a pair of Fashion Ladies Sunglasses in a shape that is the opposite of your face shape.

Round faces look best in anything but round shades. Frames should make the face appear longer and thinner. In general, look for frames equal to or slightly wider than the broadest part of the face. Minimize the curves and add definition with soft, angular, rectangular styles or double brow styles. Higher temples will create a longer profile. Sunglasses with brow bars also pull the eye upward, making the face appear longer. A rounder face can carry off geometric shapes, ovals, wraps and shields.

Square face consists of a strong jawline, a broad forehead and wide cheekbones. Reduce the angles with soft, curvy styles that will give the face some definition such as cat-eye styles. The classic ovals also works well for this face shape.

More angular or thin faces look better in rounder frames; oval faces can carry off almost any style.

Purchasing sunglasses can be an exciting and overwhelming experience given the vast array of styles, designs and colors of sunglasses frames and lenses to choose from. With so many wonderful sunglasses to choose from, your sure to have at least a few pairs in your collection. When shopping for sunglasses it helps to know in advance what sunglasses frames look best on you. Whether you need there are sunglasses to complement every face shape, lifestyle and preference.

The Dark History of Sunglasses

Chris Simpson asked:

Sunglasses have a dark history, but a brilliant future. The history of sunglasses can be traced back to Roman Emperor Nero who watched the gladiator competitions through polished light emerald green gems held up to his eyes.

The invention of sunglasses was somewhere between 1268 and 1289. A visual historical recording of early sunglasses is a painting done by Tommaso da Modena in 1352. The person in the painting was wearing sunglasses. This was the first painting of a subject in sunglasses and many more were to follow as it became a fashionable symbol of distinction or honor.

Around the twelfth century and before 1430, sunglasses were worn by Judges in the Courts of China. The smoky quartz, flat-glassed panes were not used as protection from the sun. By the 1600’s people began to realize the benefits of prescription glasses as helping the elderly to see better and the motto “A Blessing to the Aged” came into being in 1629. It was the motto of an English eyeglasses manufacturer, Spectacle Makers Company.

In the mid 18th Century, James Ayscough developed blue and green corrective lenses which began the use of sunglasses for correcting optical impairments.

Celebrities and their Sunglasses

Nick Albert asked:

Every celebrity out there knows the real value of a pair of designer sunglasses. Whether it’s to hide the effects of a late night out on the town or an effort to blend in on the street, a pair of quality sunglasses is absolutely indispensable. We’ve seen a lot of trends come and go, but a great pair of sunglasses will always transcend the passing fads of the day.

With the summer just around the corner, we have begun our fashion trend spotting efforts for 2006. Like years passed, celebrities are on the forefront of eyewear fashion. One of my favorite pastimes is to monitor the fashion trends of my favorite celebrities. As with last season, big sunglasses are all the rage for the ladies. God bless you, Jackie O!

Carmen Electra is one of my favorite celebrities, and one of the most stylish women in entertainment. While I could do without another season of her dreadful “reality” television show, I am dying to get my hands on a pair of the Missoni shades she was recently spotted in. They are oversized and oh-so-glamorous!

Catherine Zeta-Jones may have a thing for old, outdated actors but her fashion sense is as fresh as a spring breeze. I recently saw her sporting a pair of Dolce & Gabbana glasses that were out of this world! I suspect they were the utterly amazing “4005″ model. They were black, with the D&G logo designed into the arms of the glasses. The shades are big, bold, and beautiful!

Heidi Klum, our favorite supermodel and partygirl, has incredible fashion sense. I saw a picture of her earlier this week wearing a classic pair of Aviator shades. While a number of people in the fashion industry have been lamenting the prevalence of Aviator shades, I couldn’t imagine a world without them. Heidi was wearing a pair made by Ray Ban, and they were absolutely fabulous!

Speaking of partygirls, how could I go on without mentioning Paris Hilton? I adore Paris. She may not be taken seriously as an actress or singer, but she reigns supreme over the fashion world. She was recently spotted wearing a pair of the new Oakley glasses for women. That’s right, kids. Oakley just launched a new line of shades exclusively for women, and they are the must-have item for this fashion year. Believe the Hype!

Women’s Sunglasses are Today’s Hot Accessory

Jane Worthington asked:

When you page through today’s celebrity magazines such as “People” and “US Weekly,” what do you notice the celebrities wearing in almost every picture? Do not worry if you cannot think of it immediately, it will make perfect sense when I reveal the answer. Everyone, especially women, are wearing sunglasses. Sunglasses are extremely important for celebrities for a few reasons. One reason they never leave their house with a pair of shades is that they use them to help hide their identity. A person’s eyes are one of the most defining features on our face so if the celebrity can disguise this feature, it is more likely that they will not be caught by the paparazzi.

The second reason for the love affair that celebrities currently have with oversize sunglasses especially is that they are today’s biggest fashion accessory. Women’s sunglasses are huge right now! Many of the top luxury item designers are focusing on their sunglasses collections. Brands such as Chanel, Dolce & Gabbana, Coach, and DKNY are manufacturing frames that every celebrity would love to own. The competition is on in regards to who can create the best new design for the next fashion show. The good news, however, is that celebrities are not the only ones who are able to own these luxury shades. High-end sunglasses are available to everyone so you can make a bold fashion statement as well!

If you are looking for a new accessory, I cannot recommend a pair of women’s sunglasses more highly. This accessory is much better than investing in a bracelet or a new pair of earrings. The advantage of sunglasses has over pieces of jewelry is that they help keep you healthy as well. Well-made designer frames give you 100% UV protection when you spend time outside. Your eyes are just as sensitive as your skin; your eyeballs can even get sunburned! Sunglasses help protect your eyes from sun damage, keeping them healthier and stronger over time.

Celebrities help start the latest fashion trends. I highly recommend that you follow this one whether you have a favorite celebrity or not! Not only will you look great sporting a new pair of designer sunglasses, you will also be make a very smart move for your health.

Sunglasses – The Fashion Statement

Aakash Shah asked:

The sunglasses have become an integral part of our attire and fashion as a whole. It is hard to see a model who poses without a sunglass. Thus the fashion and trendy taste that a person has is explicitly expressed by the sunglasses he sports. The designer and branded glasses have come to stay here. The Designer sunglasses are more becoming an integral entity of a person that shows of the grandeur and sense of the person’s styling and fashion.

You surely don’t want others to think you are still a decade behind, not sporting a branded sunglass but using a latest model car. The fashion of present day as exposed by many of the models and celebrities. You can see from the stills of the celebrities out there that clearly shows that they are intended to represent themselves as a follower of a specific fashion or a brand.

The level to which the brands have their innovation into their style of sunglasses, they have many of them accepting the brand. There are extensive variety of brands ranging from the biggies like Ray-Ban, Gucci to the others who have just entered but had made a strong statement of fashion in their products. The Branded sunglasses offer you the versatility and ever improving fashion to be exhibited in your attire. The branded sunglasses thus have virtually become rulers of the present day fashion trend. The sunglasses have become more of an extension to ones personality and decides how you appear to the others eyes.

The Many Personalities of Sunglasses

Jane Worthington asked:

With every pair of sunglasses, come a different persona and a different style. Whether you’re fashion icon is Paris Hilton or Jack Bauer, there are a pair of frames that will suit your style. Here’s a fashion guide to picking out the best brand for your buck.

Dolce & Gabbana are a well known and often worn pair of shades that exude style and boldness. They are always on the forefront of fashion, and you know you’re going to be getting a quality product, that is recognizable and often obvious with the bold D&G trademark usually found somewhere on the frames. These D&G designer sunglasses are perfect for wearing into the club, or people watching on the beach.

Ray Ban’s are a classic manufacturer who practically put fashion frames on the market with their popular Aviators and Welfarers. These durable styles don’t waver on quality and are constantly being adapted to ensure they’re found on everyone’s faces all over the world, from pilots in the air force, to backyard barbecues, these styles fit everyone.

There are also different styles of shades, like performance and sport frame. Companies like Oakley and Arnette sunglasses are among the top producers of these durable and stylish styles. They stand up to whatever you want to throw at them, whether it’s mud from the mountain bike trail, salt water from the surf, or sun glare from the river while you’re fishing.

A few other variations are clip on, and prescription styles. These styles protect your eyes from harmful rays, while also allowing you to see clearer whenever you need them. If you prefer separate glasses, one for the sun and one for when you’re indoors, clip ons are the perfect solution to never lose them! Prescription sunglasses are great for someone who doesn’t want to have to keep switching back and forth between regular eye glasses and protective eyewear.

As you can see there are many different variations when it comes to styles and performance eye wear. Which one is best for you, is for you to decide, but with these ideas you should be able to find the perfect pair that will complement you on the boat, or on the runway.
